The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ May 24, 1995, p. 2 Freeda Griffin Brown of Quartzsite and Congress/Prescott, died May 10 in Congress. She was 84. Mrs. Brown was born August 12, 1910 in Denver, Colorado. She had lived in Arizona for 60 years, moving here from Colorado in 1935. Mrs. Brown owned and operated the Copper Basin Riding Stable in Prescott where she had horses. She was well-known for her riding abilities and gymkhana exhibitions. Mrs. Brown would spend her winters in the Quartzsite area, where her friends Mr. and Mrs. John Hadley would look to her needs. In the summer, she would be in the Congress/Prescott/Flagstaff area, where her friends Mr. and Mrs. Terry Morris would keep a watchful eye on her. Mrs. Brown also worked for a time as a security guard. She was proud of her independence, and enjoyed the company of four-footed friends. She was a good cook and her famous chocolate cakes would have people standing in line. Survivors include her daughter, June Brown of Marysville, California; grandchildren Deborah-Christine, Krystle-Kyle, and Kimberly-Kevin; great-grandchildren Lee, Robert, Kristina, Steven, Brianna-Nichole, Kevin and Andrew; cousins Flora Griffin, Mildred and George Hall, all of Colorado; sister-in-law Anna Brown of Washington; and adopted families and close friends Mr. and Mrs. John Hadley of Quartzsite, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Morris of Flagstaff, Richard and Lee Proper and son Rod of Prescott; and her friend of more than 40 years, Florence Williams of Camp Verde. Private cremation has been held, with inurnment at Sedona Memorial Cemetery next to her husband, William Lee Brown, who preceded her in death.
