Paul William Pfingstag of Wickenburg died June 8 in Wickenburg. He was 84. Mr. Pfingstag was born January 16, 1911 in Newport, Kentucky. He had lived in Arizona for the past 34 years.
Mr. Pfingstag was a 28-year Navy veteran, retiring at the rank of captain. He was one of three brothers, all of whom were captains at one time.
Mr. Pfingstag and his family were at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 during the time of the Japanese bombing, and he docked shops by flashlights that were damaged in battle. He served as a docking officer at the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard for the first seven months of World War II. He docked the USS Shaw, plus many other battle-damaged ships.
Mr. Pfingstag was a graduate of Devitt Preparatory School, Purdue University, the U.S. Naval Academy, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Upon his retirement in 1961, he relocated to Wickenburg where he planted a pecan orchard.
Mr. Pfingstag was a member of St. Alban Episcopal Church in Wickenburg.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Martha, of Wickenburg; daughter Anne Clark of Phoenix; sons Bill Pfingstag of Wickenburg and John Pfingstag of Phoenix; sister Dorothy Meek of Green Valley; grandchildren Cindy Logan of Wickenburg and Pamela Rehfeldt, Leland Pfingstag and Lauren Pfingstag, all of Phoenix; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held. Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wickenburg was in charge of all arrangements.
