The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ August 16, 1995, p. 2 David Verna of Wickenburg died August 11 in Wickenburg. He was 71. Mr. Verna was born January 18, 1924 in Plymouth, Wisconsin. He had lived in Arizona 45 years, coming here from Illinois. Mr. Verna was a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II, flying B-17s. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1966 at the rank of Captain. Mr. Verna was a member of the American Legion, Wickenburg Elks Lodge No. 2160 and he American Telephone Pioneers. He was an engineer for U.S. West for 31 years. He and his wife, June, belonged to the High Country Model A Club and toured Arizona in their Model A, which they restored. At the time of Mr. Verna’s retirement, they moved from Phoenix to Prescott and then to Wickenburg three years ago. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, June of Wickenburg; sons David of Phoenix and Thomas of Los Altos, California; sister, Shirley Catenacci of Wisconsin; brothers James of Phoenix and Ronald of Nevada; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Pastor Ed Wessling will officiate. Wickenburg Elks Lodge No. 2160 will provide special services. Contributions may be made in Mr. Verna’s name to the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 420 Rose Lane, Wickenburg, AZ 85390 or the Wickenburg Public Library, P. O. Box 1268, Wickenburg, 85358. Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge of all local arrangements.
