KLEIN, Mark J. (Dr.)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, March 21, 2011 Dr. Mark J. Klein passed away March 1, 2011, after a courageous journey through ALS, beating the odds time and time again. Dr. Klein was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 25, 1943. He finished medical school at New York University in New York City. He then went on to complete his residency at Strong Memorial in Rochester, N.Y. From there, Dr. Klein had a private practice in psychiatry for 32 years in New York. Dr. Klein moved to Prescott, Ariz., in 2002 where he worked at West Yavapai Guidance Clinic as a dedicated Psychiatrist until he retired. Dr. Klein was a friend to everyone, and dedicated himself to helping others. He loved to travel to exotic places and cared about the earth and humanity. He enjoyed playing tennis and sipping martinis at Murphy's with his tennis buddies (The Group). He was full of jokes and always had a person on their toes. Dr. Klein was a gentle man that also enjoyed watching movies with his friend Marc. Dr. Klein loved learning and always was continuing his education even while lying in bed. He taught so many people so many things, and for that we are forever grateful. In his final moments, he was surrounded by his caregivers with hugs and kisses throughout, along with Nurse Chris from Granite Mountain Homecare who Dr. Klein adored. Dr. Klein will be missed by so many and will forever be in our hearts. Dr. Klein is survived by his daughter Jessica Klein of Austin, Texas; his sister Ellen Klein of Prescott, Ariz.; cousins, Eileen Umen of Woodland Hills, Calif., Michael Umen of Pennsylvania; and his extended family, his caregivers. We thank you so much Dr. Klein for showing all of us the true meaning of life, and what it is really about. We all love you so much, and will carry your teachings with us forever. The memorial will be at Dr. Klein's home in Prescott on March 27, 2011, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the ALS foundation, as this was Dr. Klein's request.
