Evan C. Neilson, of Polson, Montana and formerly of Wickenburg died September 9 in Polson. He was 76. Mr. Nielson was born October 1, 1918 in Ephraim, Utah to Andrew Christian and Teckla Pauline Nielson Jr.
Mr. Nielson was a graduate of Utah State University in 1940, majoring in soils and agronomy. He retired from the Soil Conservation Service after 35 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked as a consultant in Wyoming and for the Navajo Indian Reservation and also for five years in South Africa.
He married Gertrude May McKenzie in Twin Falls, Idaho January 8, 1942. He and his wife, Gertrude, lived at Country Club Park and were winter visitors for many years.
Mr. Nielson was an active outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and bridge. He traveled extensively and enjoyed an active lifestyle. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Soil Conservation Society.
Mr. Neilson is survived by his wife, Gertrude; daughter and son-in-law Mary and Mac Smith of Hanford, California; sons and daughters-in-law Ronald E. and Diane Nielson of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Rod and Debbie Neilson of Missoula, Montana; brothers Robert of Aptos, California and Woodrow of Coalville, Utah; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services have been held with burial at the Lake View Cemetery in Polson. Arrangements were handled by Mosley-Shrider Funeral Home in Polson.
