Charles M. Bennett, of Scottsdale, died September 24 in Scottsdale. He was 91. Mr. Bennett was born May 20, 1904 in Medford, Massachusetts.
Mr. Bennett was a championship roper during the 1930’s and 40s. He was inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame December 9, 1983. He was one of the founders of the Arizona National Livestock Association. Mr. Bennett served on the board of directors of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, was a member of the Rodeo Historical Society, the OK Quarterhorse Association, the Paradise Valley Country Club, and the Masonic Lodge No. 37 of Wickenburg. He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy.
He was the owner of the Diamond 2 Ranch near Wagoner.
He is survived by his son, Charles M.”Chip” Bennett IV of Reno, Nevada; three step-children; two nieces; and several great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Foster Alexander.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, September 28 at 11 a.m. at Valley Presbyterian Church, 6947 E. McDonald Road, Paradise Valley.
