Ellis “Wayne” Bourne of Prescott Valley, AZ, formerly of Ames, IA, died peacefully after suffering a stroke three days prior.
Born March 1, 1924, in Blairsburg, IA, Wayne was the first born of six children of Elsie (Schroeder) and Leslie Bourne. They moved to Ames, IA, when he was one month old. He grew up in Ames with his three brothers and two sisters. He loved music and played saxophone in Ames High School (AHS), Iowa State College, and Ames Municipal bands. He graduated from AHS in 1942. He always enjoyed fishing with his dad.
Drafted into the Army Air Corps in January 1943, he served in the Central Pacific until October 1945, when he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He attended Iowa State College, while he helped his parents in the Conoco Motel after returning home. Later he studied electronics in Chicago where he graduated from DeForest Training, Inc., studied IBM machines at Endicott, NY, and later took classes at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
He was employed in Chicago by IBM, Zenith TV, and Hallicrafters, Co., before moving to Scottsdale, AZ, where he was employed by Motorola Government Electronics Division for 24 years. For about seven years of that time, he enjoyed traveling across the country for Motorola solving problems. After retiring, he spent many hours on the computer for his own work and pleasure, assisted others on the computer, enjoyed watching basketball games on television, and getting together with friends.
Wayne was united in marriage to Caroline Elsie Stillman in Chicago, May 1954, and divorced in 1994. However, Wayne and Caroline remained friends over the years and were companions in recent months. Wayne was very proud of the accomplishments of his two children, who were born in Chicago and moved with their parents to Arizona as young children.
