The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ February 4, 1998, p. 2 Harold W. Allen of Wickenburg, died February in Wickenburg. He was 78. Mr. Allen was born September 3, 1919 in Madelia, Minnesota. He had lived in Arizona for the past 18 years, coming from California. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Darlene of Wickenburg; daughter Karen Allen of Reseda, California; son Bradley Allen of Los Angeles, California; and brothers Rollin Allen of Wickenburg and Eldon Allen of Oregon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Allen. Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 5-7 p.m. at Frey Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 5 at Redeemer Lutheran church, with graveside services to follow in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. Allen of Wickenburg died February 2 at his home following years of coronary problems. He was 78. Mr. Allen was born in Madelia, Minnesota on September 3, 1919 to parents Glen and Veva Allen. The heart problems started at the age of 48 in Palm Springs, California when his family was told he “would not live through the night.” At that time, he was a manager of a Thrifty Drug Store. He enlisted in the Army Air Force on September 5, 1941 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He received an honorable discharge from the Officers Reserve Corps on June 21, 1943 as a Second Lieutenant, Air Corps Reserve at AAFAFA at Stockton Field, California. By reason on physical disqualification, due to an eye injury, he was released with total disability. Mr. Allen had been a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Phoenix since 1983, where he received excellent care and had several surgeries, the most recent was on May 17, 1997 for colon cancer. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Darlene, of Wickenburg; daughter Karen Allen of Reseda, California; son Bradley Allen of Los Angeles; and brothers Rollin Allen of Wickenburg and Eldon Allen of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Veva (Ballard) Allen, and his brother Eugene Allen. Services were held February 5 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial followed at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. Pastor Ed Wessling officiated. Acting as pallbearers were members of the Wickenburg Sportsman Club, Stan Waugh, Jim Crawford, Miles Preston, Thurman Jones, Wayne Jesser and Steve Andros. Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wickenburg handled all the arrangements.
