John William Lee passed away in his home on Sunday, May 10, 1998. He was 49. John, who was better known to his many friends as “Jacko”, was born in the family home in Kirkland on November 2, 1948.
His family returned to Wickenburg, where they had originally homesteaded in 1995 and John was in the first class of the newly built MacLennan Grade School. He graduated from Wickenburg High School in 1969.
John may be immortalized as the colorful figure who sat on the top of a gas pump during the gas shortage of 1981 and waved as passersby at the Texaco station next to the Hassayampa Bridge where he worked from 1967 to 1981. He thoroughly loved life, especially growing beautiful roses in his garden and walking his dog “Pepper.”
John left this earth on Mother’s day, which was the anniversary of his mother’s death in 1987. He will be truly missed by all his family and friends.
Survivors include his brothers Raymond C. Lee of Washbol, Washington, David L. Lee of Moorehead, Minnesota and James J. Lee of Prescott; sisters Ruby E. Garner of Phoenix, Minnie O’Conner of Sun city, California, Kathleen Perry of Wickenburg and Carol Way of Morristown; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel M. Lee.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 15 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Wickenburg, 360 W. Yavapai Street.
Aaron Cremation and Burial Services/Robin Brown is in charge of all arrangements.
