Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Saturday, March 26, 2011 - Maureen Joanne (Egan) Champion, born April 14, 1930, in Sandpoint, Idaho, to Jerome and Maude Egan, was embraced by Jesus as she entered her heavenly home March 22, 2011, at the Polidori Hospice House in Lake Havasu City. Mo, as she was known to her family and friends, married her beloved husband, David Champion, in Las Vegas, Nev., Dec 23, 1993. She moved to Lake Havasu City in 1992, coming from Spokane, Wash., where she lived from 1968 to 1989. All that knew her in Lake Havasu City and Spokane would remember her great humor and kind loving appreciation for everyone she met. She lived life to the fullest and loved travel, golf, bowling, bingo, cards, crossword puzzles and her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks #2328 in Spokane, Wash. Mo will be making her final road trip home to Spokane, where she will be laid to rest at the St Joseph Cemetery with her mother. She was loved by many and will be missed by all that loved her. Mo wrote to her children before her passing — “It’s only for a time that we must part, so bless the memories within your heart. I won’t be far away for life goes on, so if you need me, call and I will come. Even though you cannot see or touch me, I’ll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear all my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, I’ll greet you with a smile and say. Welcome home.” Mo is survived by her husband, David John Champion; children, Shelley Meyers, Sandra & Kevin Gunder and Kurt Hendricks; grandchildren, Heather Awbery, Heidi Inge Person and Kyle Hendricks; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Awbery, Libby Awbery, Spencer Inge Person and Aiden Person; sisters, Patricia (Egan) Coleman and Denise (Egan) Akin; brothers, Jim Egan and Jerry Egan. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mable (Ridley) Egan; father, Jerome Valentine Egan; and grandson, Kevin Gunder Jr. Burial will take place at St. Jospeh Cemetery in Spokane.
