WHITE, Harold A. (Luke)


The Wickenburg Sun Wickenburg, AZ September 9, 1998, p. 14 Harold A. “Luke” White of Prescott and a former resident of Wickenburg, died August 24 in his home in Prescott. He was 86. Mr. White was born September 15, 1911 in Washington, D.C. to Harry B. and Grace (Brewer) White. Mr. White had lived in Arizona for 64 years, first coming to Wickenburg at the age of 14 to help his brother Lewis C. “Bob” White develop Monte Vista Guest Ranch. After returning to Washington, D. C. to finish high school, he chose to attend Arizona State Teacher’s College in 1933 and managed several hotels in Arizona and California. He also managed the Phoenix Country Club for six years before moving to Wickenburg to join his brother Bob in the real estate and insurance business. He retired from White Land and Investment Company in 1973 but remained active as a broker for several more years. While in Wickenburg, Mr. White was a member of the rotary and Kiwanis clubs. He also was past president of the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce and chief of the Rural Fire Department. He served his country in the U.S. Navy on both active duty and in the Reserves. Survivors include his wife Betty of Prescott; son Lewis of Tempe; daughter Suzanne Pfingstag of Wickenburg; sister, Grace Hammond of Tucson; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Private family services were held in Prescott. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Family Care, 100 E.
