John M. Hamilton, Jr. of Camp Verde and a former Wickenburg resident, died September 29 in Las Vegas. He was 52. Me. Hamilton was born June 4, 1946 in Enterprise, Oregon and had been a resident of Arizona for 45 years.
Mr. Hamilton grew up north of Wickenburg, near the Santa Maria River. He graduated from Wickenburg High School in 1964. He enjoyed playing football, along with various other outdoor sports. He belonged to the Operating Engineers Union, Local 428 for many years.
John was known as the “Hard Luck Cowboy” who enjoyed bull and bronc riding. This was where he found his true happiness. He was also listed as an owner/trainer with the Arizona Racing Commission, racing in Tucson and California.
He had fond memories of the Wickenburg area, holding fast to many friendships he developed growing up in the area.
Survivors include companion Jan Thomas of Camp Verde; son John M. Hamilton III (Trey) of Buckeye; and sister, Louise Dodson of Boulder City, Nevada.
Visitation was conducted Saturday, October 3 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Wickenburg Funeral Home. Graveside services were held at t 3 p.m. Saturday, October 3 at the Wickenburg Cemetery, Dan Masterson officiating.
