The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ October 28, 1998, p. 20 Leonard R. Gardner of Wickenburg died October 22 in Wickenburg. He was 75. Mr. Gardner was born January 22, 1923 in Glenrock, Wyoming. He had lived in Arizona for the past six years, coming from Wyoming. Survivors include his wife, Gladys, of Wickenburg; sons Stephen Gardner of Montana; daughter Georgia Steele of Wyoming; brother, Richard K. Gardner of California; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Mr. Gardner was born January 22, 1923 in Glenrock, Wyoming and had lived in Arizona for six years. Lee served in the Army during World War II during the Philippine Invasion and in Okinawa. Upon returning to the United States, he married Gladys Williamson in Kansas City, Missouri in 1950. He was employed by Boeing Aircraft as an electronic technician in Wichita, Kansas. He then moved on to Boulder, Colorado where he worked for Ball Brothers Research Corporation in the Aerospace Division. His family then moved on to Montana, where Lee worked as an electronic technician for Montana State University in Bozeman. After retiring, Lee and Gladys moved on to Wyoming, here they spent their summers operating a rock and gift shop in Dubois, and spent their winter months in Yuma before taking up full-time residence in Wickenburg six years ago. The couple chose the Wickenburg area because they enjoyed the surrounding mountains and the greenery of the high desert. During the years in Bozeman, Lee was an active member of the Elks and received the “Elk of the Year” award in 1975 and 1976. Since residing in Wickenburg, he has been a member of the Sportsman Club and the National Rifle Association. His hobbies included fishing, music and electronics. Survivors include his wife Gladys Gardner of Wickenburg; daughter Georgia Steele of Casper, Wyoming; son Steve Gardner of Montana; brother, Richard K. Gardner of Merced, California; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Lee was preceded in death by his parents Ross and Beatrice Gardner. There will be no services. Mr. Gardner’s cremated remains will be scattered at a later date by his family in Montana. In lieu of flowers, any contributions can be made to the Arizona Humane Society, 9226 N. 13th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85021 Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Services at 980 N. Tegner St. in Wickenburg handled all the arrangements.
