CHILDRESS, Melvin (Bud)

The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ November 25, 1998, p. 20 Melvin “Bud” Childress of Wickenburg died November 21 in Wickenburg. He was 70. Mr. Childress was born December 31, 1928 in Phoenix and was a life-long resident of Arizona. The word “Gold miner” best describes Melvin. He loved the great outdoors, fishing and camping, which were only second-best to his love for gold mining. The greatest memories of the family will hold on to are the “Good Ol’ Day” stories that he so frequently told. It just wasn’t like him to talk about current events. Instead, he enjoyed the years in the 1940s and 1950s. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife Linda of Wickenburg; sons Melvin L. Childress Jr. of Wickenburg. Steven R. Coleman of Washington, Ronald M. Coleman of Wickenburg, and Donald K. Coleman of Oregon; daughters Cheryl L. Greene of Cottonwood; Cheri L. Huffman of Cottonwood and Deborah A. Childress of California; grandchildren Billy, Katie, Michael, Kristin, Wendi, Brandon, Ronnie and Justin; great-grandchildren Ashley, Adam, Austin and Cheyenne; brothers, Bill Childress of Fresno; and sisters Betty Stovall of California, Linda Winsell of California, and Joanna Cloyd of Phoenix. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, December 2 at 3 p.m. at the Wickenburg Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mike Abdollahzaheh officiating. Brown’s Wickenburg Funeral Home handled all the arrangements.
