FIELD, Benjamin A.


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, July 2, 2003 Benjamin A. Field, D.O., F.A.C.O.E.P., 51, was born December 15, 1951 in Glendale, California and passed away Saturday, June 28, 2003 in Phoenix, Arizona. Ben received his Bachelor of Science from the University of California at Davis, and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Michigan State University. Ben served his Residency at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians and Board Certified in Emergency Medicine from the American Board of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians. Ben was a Professor and Associate Dean of Clinical Education at Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine at the time of his death. He served as a Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served as an Associate Director for the Emergency Medical Associates of Illinois and Indiana. Ben's Professional Volunteer Activities included: Chair, Committee on Continuing Medical Education, Secretary and President of the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine; Secretary of the American Board of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine; and Chair on the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists, American Osteopathic Association. His Honors included: Educator of the Year from the American Osteopathic Association, Alumnus of the Year from Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine and numerous faculty teaching awards from Midwestern University. Ben's community involvement included being a founding member of the Gay & Lesbian Physicians of Chicago; Chair of the Quality Assurance Committee, Maricopa County AIDS Partnership; Safe Sex workshop trainer with the Community AIDS Council, Phoenix, Arizona and a Volunteer with the Arizona Human Rights Fund. His life partner of 21 years Keith Susman of Phoenix, Arizona and his Mother Alma June Field of Phoenix, Arizona survive Ben. A Memorial and Celebration of Ben's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 2, 2003 in Ocotillo Hall on the campus of Midwestern University, 19555 N. 59th Avenue in Glendale, Arizona.
