The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ October 11, 1984, p. 22 William A. Nelson, 81, of Wickenburg, died Oct. 6 at the Wickenburg Community Hospital. He was born Dec. 17, 1902 in Arizona. In Nelson's earlier years, his father owned a ranch in Bowe and he was among the last Arizona open range cowboys. He was later inducted into the Open Range Cowboy Hall of Fame. During World War II, he worked in the Civilian Auxiliary Military Police in plant protection in Henderson, Nev. He retired from the Arizona State Highway Department and was a member and retired deacon of the First Southern Baptist Church in Wickenburg. Memorial services are today at 7 p.m. in the First Southern Baptist Church.
