Gordon Emmett Taggart, 70, of Wickenburg, died Oct. 27 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix.
Taggart was born in Harrison County Missouri on Oct. 25, 1914, the son of Mary Belle and Garland Leroy Taggart, of Harrison County.
Entering the service during World War I, Taggart achieved the rank of colonel and first saw service in the Asiatic theater of operations. After serving in Army intelligence working all over the world including Europe, Taggart was stationed at the U. S. Army Intelligence Center in Baltimore, Md., where he was promoted to lieutenant colonel.
In June of 1963, he retired from active service.
Shortly after his retirement, he and his family moved to Wickenburg where he and his wife operated the well-known Frontier Inn from July of 1963 to May of 1979.
He is survived by his wife, Mary M. Taggart, of Wickenburg; three children, Sherry Lynn Miller, of Baltimore, Connie Sue Mrozinski, of Wickenburg and Gordon Michael Taggart, of Chandler; three grandchildren, Joshua Taggart Miller, Tyre Moncia Tarragrt Mrozinski and Mail Winfield Mrozinski; two brothers, Ferris Keith Taggart, of Petaluma, Calif., and Jack Lynn Taggart, of Bethany, Mo., and two sisters, Janet Rose Gotschall, of Richmond, Mo., and Hildred Grace Glaze, of Chattanooga, Tenn.
The visitation was hosted in the Wickenburg funeral Home Chapel on Oct. 30 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Memorial services were Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. in the Wickenburg Funeral Home Chapel with the former St. Alban Episcopal Church Pastor Dan Gerrard officiating. Interment followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery.
