Gene C. Tang, 80, a Phoenix native, was born April 17, 1923 and passed away June 29, 2003.
His parents, Koai and Chan Shee Tang immigrated to the U.S. from China.
A U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of WWII, Gene worked with his family at Sunbrite Market at 7th Street and Camelback until 1953 when he opened Sunbrite Market #2 at 16th and Bethany Home Rd.
Retiring from the grocery business in 1964, he successfully pursued a career in real estate development and investments.
Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Baley; and his four children and their spouses, Ron & Kong Hong Tang of Phoenix, Cindy & Jim Hopperstad, Ken & Cindy Tang and Jennifer & Jim Mosley all of California; two grandchildren, Aimee and Aaron Tang; and great granddaughter Alycia Tang-Perez. He is also survived by his four siblings and their spouses, George and Anna Tang, Jimmy and Eva Tang, Dan and Lee Tang and Sue May and Quon Chin. Well respected in the community, Gene will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him.
Viewing will be held Thursday, July 3, from 5-8pm (Mortuary Chapel) and Saturday, July 5 from 9:30-10:30am (Serenity Chapel) of Greenwood Memory Lawn, 719 N. 27th Ave.
Services will be held Saturday, July 5 at 10:30am (Serenity Chapel.)
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Chinese Senior Center or the American Legion Thomas Tang Post #50.
