BROWN, Mark A.


Lt. Mark A. Brown, 52, a 30-year veteran of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) passed away January 15th, 2004, after a long illness. Public visitation was Thursday, January 22nd at the North Phoenix Baptist Church, 5757 N. Central Ave in Phoenix. Services were Friday, January 23rd at the North Phoenix Baptist Church. A reception followed the service at the Fraternal Order of Police lodge #2, 12851 N. 19th Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family request those donations are sent to the Mark A. Brown Memorial Fund c/o Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85257. All Funds benefit the DPS Family Support Group, COPS, the 100 Club of Arizona and The W. Steven Martin Toy Drive charities. Born in El Dorado, Kansas, Lt. Brown was a graduate of Wichita State University where he earned a Bachelor degree in Political Science. Upon graduation, Lt. Brown relocated to Scottsdale, AZ and entered the Department of Public Safety's officer training academy. He aspired to various positions within the department where his final command was that of DPS motors. Lt. Brown was not only very active in the training of motorcycle police officers for DPS, but was instrumental in the training of motorcycle officers from around the state of Arizona and many police agencies around the country. Lt. Brown also was very active with police survivors, assisting the families of fellow officers from around the state and country whose lives were taken prematurely. He is survived by his wife Dianna, son Jeff, nephew Scott, niece's Shari, Stacy and Kristie and two grandchildren, Jeffery and Kayla. Lt. Brown was a caring and compassionate man who deeply loved his family and friends. He touched many more lives than anyone will ever know. We will miss him dearly.
