MELUGIN, Neva


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ May 19, 1999, p. 16 & May 26, p. 16 Neva Melugin of Cottonwood, died May 15 in Cottonwood. He was 90. Mr. Melugin was born June 28, 1908 in Benton, Kentucky, and had lived in Arizona for the past 52 years. Before coming to Arizona, Mr. Melugin worked as a bricklayer, and then later owned and operated a small grocery store. On April 8, 1928 he married Edna Lou Phelps. They were married for 69 years before she went to be with the Lord in December of 1997. Mr. Melugin came to Arizona in 1947 and went back to work as a bricklayer. In the early 1950’s, he started his own masonry contracting company. In the mid 1950s he became a general contractor and built several small tracts of homes in the Phoenix area. In 1962, he moved to Prescott where he continued to work in the construction industry on a smaller scale. He finally retired and moved to Wickenburg in 1987. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Kit Kirby of Cottonwood; son and daughter-in-law Ken and Garna Melugin of Wickenburg; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren and sister, Mildred Weeks of Lexington, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his wife Edna in December of 1997. Services were held Friday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at the Wickenburg Funeral Home, with Greg Towson officiating. Interment is at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.
