STANIFER, Lois Joan


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ July 28, 1999, p. 16 Lois Joan Stanifer of Morristown died July 28 in Sun City West. She was 71. Mrs. Stanifer was born January 30, 1928 in South Bend, Indiana and had lived in Arizona for 25 years. After graduating from high school in South Bend, she then worked as a telephone operator and also as a ticket seller for the local drive-in. She married Ray Stanifer, then started the family prior to moving to Grand Rapids, Michigan where she had her fourth child. Due to her husband’s employment with Sears, they then relocated to Jackson, Michigan then on to Minnesota, Ohio and finally Chicago. She was great mother who lovingly raised her family. Her son Lon passed away in an automobile accident in 1969. In 1974 Ray, Joan and the children moved to Arizona, purchased the Hassayampa River Trading Company, owning and operating it for many years. Joan and Ray were very happy together until his passing in 1994. She was very active in the Morristown Women’s Club and held such fond memories of all her family and friends. In 1995, she met Bill Bradshaw, who became her companion and part of the family, sharing a very deep love for each other. She became ill three years ago, never complaining or feeling sorry for herself. She will be missed by Bill, her children, grandchildren and her friends. Survivors include her companion William Bradshaw of Morristown; son Michael Stanifer of Morristown; daughter Teri Durfee of Phoenix and Deborah Fike of Phoenix; brothers Ralph Wolfe and cork Wolfe, both of South Bend, Indiana and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Stanifer in 1994; son Lon Stanifer in 1969 and brother, Richard Wolfe. Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Monday, August 2 at the Wickenburg Funeral Home Chapel. Interment is at the Morristown Cemetery. Brown’s Wickenburg Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
