The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, October 16, 2006 Howard Arthur Steele, 89, of Chino Valley, born Oct. 5, 1917, in Santa Fe, N.M., died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at the Flagstaff Medical Center. Services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Hampton Funeral Home. ----------------------------- The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ November 05, 2006 Howard Arthur Wientge Steele, a longtime Prescott resident, died Oct. 6, 2006, after suffering severe head trauma from a fall. Born Oct. 5, 1917, in Santa Fe, N.M., to Harold and Freda Wientge Steele, the first of five sons. Howard grew up in the home his parents and grandparents resided in since the 1880s, which is a historical building and stands below the Cross of the Martyrs overlooking Santa Fe. Howard married Bell Aug. 16, 1940. He worked for Lockheed Vega Aircraft in California during the '40s, returning to Santa Fe, where he drove for Greyhound Bus Lines until joining the U.S. Army and serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign of World War II as a Tech 4th Class in the 689th Eng. Base Equip. Co. as a heavy equipment operator in the Philippines. Following the military he worked for Southern Union Gas Co., transferring to Prescott in April 1951. During his time in Prescott, he was a member of the Volunteer Prescott Police Force, VFW, Kiwanis and Lions Clubs and was an active member of Smoki for many years. In 1959 he transferred to the Verde Valley, managing the installation of natural gas lines into Jerome, Clarkdale, and Cottonwood communities. He transferred to Albuquerque, retiring after 40 years. Survivors include his daughters Patricia (James) Stotts of Prescott and Kathy Steele; brothers Bill of Las Cruces, N.M., Paul (Natalie), Richmond, Va., John (Ann) Hayes, Va.; four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. A memorial tribute will be Nov. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2110 Willow Creek Road, Prescott. Internment services will be Nov. 14, at 10:30 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his name to VFW, Donations Dept., 406 W. 34th St., Kansas City, Mo. 6411
