BURKHART, Wesley D. (Stoney)

The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ June 18, 1997 Wesley D. “Stoney” Burkhart of Congress, and formerly of Wickenburg died June 21 in Glendale. He was 45. Mr. Burkhart was born Dec. 22, 1951 in Bell Plaine, Iowa. He had lived in Arizona for 38 years, coming from Iowa. Mr. Burkhart moved to Wickenburg with his parents in 1959, then joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1973 and was honorably discharged in 1986. He moved back to Wickenburg in 1993 and was employed by the Wickenburg Bashas’. One of his great joys was to saddle his horse Jaggles and just take off. Mr. Burkhart taught Sunday School at the First Southern Baptist Church of Wickenburg, working with the junior high and high school students. He also was an Arizona Territorial Ranger and held the position of Sergeant at Arms. Survivors include his wife Sherri Burkhart of Congress; daughter Becky Pollay; sons Joseph and Micheal Burkhart of Congress; brothers Richard and Johnny Burkart of Iowa; and sisters Shirley of Iowa and Lisa of Utah. Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at Firsrt Southern Baptist Church of Wickenburg. Services will follow at 3 p.m., also at the church. Pastor Mike Abdollahzadeh will officiate. Burial will be in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. A fund was establishes at the First Southern Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1032, Wickenburg AZ 85390, to assist the family with burial expenses. Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wickenburg handled all the arrangements.
