The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ September 3, 1997 Gordon W. Billingslea of Wickenburg died Aug 28 in Wickenburg. He was 83. Mr. Billingslea was born June 13, 1914 in Quail, Texas. He had lived in Arizona for the past 25 years. Mr. Billingslea spent his life ranching cattle, and participated in experimental breeding for which he received recognition in many livestock publications for his desire to ensure the safety of breeding of cattle. He spend fours years in the Army Calvary as a horseshoer duringWorld War II. Mr. Billingslea will always remain well respected in the “Cowboy Corner” for the time he spent teaching others to be true cowboys. He held the respect, love and gratitude of all who knew him. Though he has journeyed to the Big Pasture in the sky, Gordon has left many legacies behind for all those he loved. There will be peace in the valley for his family and friends, knowing he was among the very last of the real western ranch group, a dying breed. Pa, you will be missed by all you have touched during your time with us. Say hello to everyone…we will be assein’ you afore too long… Survivors include his wife Alice “Maxine” Billingslea of Wickenburg; son and daughter-in-law Ben and Claudia Billingslea of Wickenburg; grandchildren Dixie Jo and Ricky Chavarria of Phoenix and Beau and Barbara Billingslea of Wickenburg; and great-grandchildren Rikki Jo and Cole Tyler Chavarria of Phoenix and Austin Nichols of Wickenburg. He was preceded in death by his parents Hershel and Zillah Billingslea and brothers Jay and Earl Billingslea. Private services are planned.
