Horace “Tex” Clay of Peeples Valley died Sept. 14 in Peeples Valley. He was 83.
Mr. Clay was born Oct. 13, 1913 in Larue, Texas. He had lived in Arizona for the past nine years.
Tex and his wife Loma were married April 3, 1987. He was a farmer and rancher in Texas in his younger years.
Mr. Clay owned and operated a garage in Los Angeles, and was a camp caretaker in Big Bear, Calif., for 20 years for the Camp Fire-girls. He was nicknamed “Daddy Clay.”
He lived in Baja, Mexico, for 12 years after his retirement and also purchased a home in Peeples Valley, Ariz., where he spent his summers.
Tex was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife Loma of Peeples Valley; daughter Barbara Patterson of Norwalk, Calif.; brother Charlie Clay of Mineral Wells, Texas; granddaughters Stephanie Roy of Victorville, Calif., and Candy Shandy of Norwalk; great-granddaughters Law Dawn and La Shonna Roy of Victorville; and a great-grandson Jeff Shandy of Azusa, Calif.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 17) at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, Calif., preceded by visitation at 3 p.m. today at Rose Hills.
Brown’s Wickenburg Funeral Home handled all the arrangements.
