George D. Miller of Wickenburg died Oct. 20 in Wickenburg. He was 81.
Mr. Miller was born Feb. 8, 1916 in Orafino, Neb. He had lived in Arizona for the past 19 years.
Mr. Miller was the youngest of four children, born to Clifford and Sarrah. In 1938, he went to California, where he worked for Standard Stations, Inc., for three years.
He then enlisted in the Army Air Corps. In 1943, his bomb group was sent to England. During their engagement with the opposition, he was captured and spent 27 months as a prisoner of war in Germany and Austria.
On Feb. 17, 1946, Mr. Miller was united in marriage to Frances Colton. He was employed in electrical and electronics work until his retirement from Ampex Corporation, which was located in Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1978.
He and Frances immediately moved to Wickenburg, making their home in Westpark.
George was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg, a lifetime member of the American POW Organization and the 8th Air Force Historical Society.
Golf was Georg’s favorite sport. It helped him enjoy the freedom, the beauty and the solitude of the outdoors.
He will always hold a special place in our hearts of those he touched while with us, and will be missed dearly.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. at the Wickenburg Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. James Longstreet officiating.
Interment is at Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge, Neb.
