The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ October 29, 1997 Lenord Stephen Collins of Wickenburg, died Oct. 22 in Wickenburg. E was 80. Mr. Collins was born June 30, 1917 in Hunter, Mo. He had lived in Arizona for the past four years, moving to Wickenburg from California in 1993. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Anna, of Wickenburg; son and daughter-in-law Howard and Sue Collins of Wickenburg; two grandsons, Brian and Gregg; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Services will be in Chico, Calif. The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ October 29, 1997 Lenord Stephen Collins of Wickenburg, died Oct. 22 in Wickenburg. He was 80. Mr. Collins was born June 30, 1917 in Hunter, Mo. He had lived in Arizona for the past four years, moving to Wickenburg from California in 1993. Mr. Collins was born to Sarah Gertrude and Stephen Moses Collins and moved with his family to Sanger, Calif., in 1922. The family moved to San Bernardino and then to Costa Mesa, Calif., where he finished grade school and attended Newport Harbor Union High School, graduating in 1935. Mr. Collins was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 6 of Costa mesa, from 1929 to 1941. He earned the Eagle Scout Badge in 1934 and was Scout Master from 1938 to 1941. Mr. Collins enjoyed upland game hunting and was an avid fisherman at Lake Oroville in California and Lake Pleasant in Arizona. He was employed by the U. S. Civil Service as an aircraft mechanic at the naval Air Station in Alameda, Calif., and North Island in San Diego, Calif., from 1941 to 1950. He worked as a supervisor of quality control for Civil Service in the San Diego and the Los Angeles areas from 1950 until retirement in 1969. Mr. Collins was involved in quality control on the Apollo (moon landing) program from start to finish. He was awarded a medallion by NASA from metal that had circled the moon on Apollo 8, along with a letter of appreciation from NASA. He served in the Army Air Corps as a corporal during World War II. Mr. Collins was a Master Mason since 1947 and was a charter member and past master of the Mount Baldy Lodge 815 in Ontario, Calif. He received his 50-year pin in June of 1997, and also was a member of the Hassyampa Chapter 35 Order of the Eastern Star in Wickenburg, and the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Yuba City, Calif. Mr. Collins also belonged to the National Rifle Association. He and his wife moved to Wickenburg from Paradise, Calif., in March of 1993. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Anna, of Wickenburg; son and daughter-in-law Howard and Sue Collins of Wickenburg; grandsons Brian and Gregg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Interment will be in Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Chico, Calif., with Bruise Funeral Home of Chico handling the arrangements.
