Julia (Jewell) Sorensen Claridge Bowman of Wickenburg died Nov. 10 in Wickenburg. She was 92.
Mrs. Bowman was born July 9, 1905 in Thatcher. She was a lifelong resident of Arizona.
Mrs. Bowman was the sixth of nine children born to early Gila Valley pioneers Wilford Hopkins Claridge and Laura Alvira Nelson Claridge. She was married to the late H. (Skeet) Bowman, a well-known rancher/horseman and a long-term sheriff of Graham County. Skeet and Jewell spent much of their married life together on their ranch, the Hidden haven, near the Coolidge Dam area.
Jewell was an active member of the LDS Church, providing a lifetime of service. She served in the primary and as junior Sunday school coordinator for a great many years.
She also served in numerous callings, including special assignment visiting/teaching to the rest home and working with the “old folks.”
Jewel moved to Wickenburg in 1989, living with Bill and Nelda Gardner until her death.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-laws betty Jewell and LaMar Cluff of Safford, Nelda Rae and Bill Gardner of Wickenburg, and Susan Louise and Ron Hawkins of Fallbrook, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law Everett Houston and Billie Bowman of Thatcher, and Larry Richard and Linda Bowman of Berea, Ky.; daughter Eddie Fae Wilson of Glendale; 29 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilford and Laura Claridge; six brothers; and two sisters.
The public viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 13) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Wickenburg. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Bishop Max Colgrove officiating.
Interment will be Friday, Nov. 14 in the Safford Cemetery.
