ROSE, Herbert Clay


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ November 12, 1997 Herbert Clay Rose of Scottsdale, and the former owner of the Eagle Eye Ranch in Aguila for over 40 years, died Nov. 7 in Scottsdale. He was 99. Mr. Rose was born Sept. 24, 1898 in Tellico Plains, Tenn. He had lived in Arizona for the past 51 years. Mr. Rose was born to Silas and Bell Payne Rose. He lost his father at a very early age. Herb moved to Texas with his mother and stepfather Charles O. Long and resided near Anson for a short time. The family labored in the cotton fields for some time before moving to Cortez, Colo., and subsequently to Delta, Colo. He moved to the Los Angeles, Calif., area as a young man and worked at many various occupations, becoming skilled in many areas. He was an excellent horseman and stockman. Mr. Rose eventually owned his own appliance business in the L. A. area and also managed his wife Virginia’s piano career. He purchased the Eagle Eye Ranch in Aguila in about 1946. He and Virginia lived there and raised livestock until her death in 1987. Mr. Rose sold his land and traveled extensively, visiting many relatives. He drove his own car until he reached the age of 95. He had been living in Phoenix independently up until the last six months; then had The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ November 19, 1997 Correction on Herbert Rose service date Graveside funeral services for Herbert Clay Rose, who died Nov in Scottsdale, will be at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. The service time was incorrectly reported in the Sun as Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the last week's newspaper. The Sun regrets the error and any inconvenience it may have caused.
