SHAPHREN, Jacob

Jacob Shaphren, 83, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away July 1, 2003. Jacob never gave up his optimism that he would prevail in his battle against lymphoma. Jacob was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Joseph and Pauline (Alter) Shaphren. He graduated from East High School in 1937 and from Drake University in 1947 (after interrupting his studies to serve with honor as a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II). Jacob moved to Phoenix in 1947. Jacob was a Certified Public Accountant for over 50 years and continued working almost every day until the last stage of his illness. He will be missed by all those lucky enough to have known him, especially by his clients, co-workers and loving family: wife of over 56 years, Helen, son Paul, daughter Susanne and brother William (Margaret). In lieu of flowers, please honor Jack's memory with a contribution to the American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85016 or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 7th at 10:00 A.M. at Temple Beth Israel, 10460 N. 56th Street in Scottsdale. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
