HAGEN, Carmella (Carme) Luna


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Saturday, July 5, 2003 Carmella (Carme) Luna Hagen, 85, passed away on July 2, 2003, in Phoenix Arizona. Carme was born in Sidney, PA, on February 4, 1918. She moved to Niagara Falls, NY, as a child. She was employed by Moore Business Forms in Niagara Falls until she met her husband, Ellwood W. Hagen. Ellwood was in the process of obtaining a civil service position with the Department of the Army. His first assignment was at the Columbus Army Depot in Ohio. Carme joined him there and they traveled extensively to Army units in the USA. The next assignment was Europe. Nineteen years were completed at Army units in Germany, Greece, Italy, and the Netherlands. In addition, assignments were at El Paso, TX (Fort Bliss) and also a year in Vietnam (July 1969-July 1970). This combat zone assignment was as a civilian technician for the department of the Army. Carme did not accompany her husband on this assignment. After a short assignment in Hawaii, Carme and her husband retired to Phoenix, AZ, in 1984. She leaves behind in addition to her husband Ellwood of 52 years, a brother Carmen (Mary) Luna of Niagara Falls NY; two sisters, Mary Griffo of Syracuse, NY and Ann LeBay of Niagara Falls, NY; two sisters-in-law Ellen Luna of North Tonawanda, NY and Kathleen Luna of San Diego, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Domenic and Angelina (Carilla) Luna of Niagara Falls, NY; six brothers, Joseph (Mary) Luna and Frank (Eadie) Luna of Niagara Falls NY, Anthony (Isabel) Luna of Lockport NY, Peter (Gen) Luna of Syracuse NY, Albert Luna of North Tonawanda, NY and Salvatore Luna of San Diego CA; two sisters, Grace (Anthony) Cambria of Phoenix Az and Rosemarie (Theodore) Pfennig of San Jose CA. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 6, 2003 from 5-8pm with a Rosary at 7pm at Greer-Wilson Funeral Home, 5921 W. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, Az. Visitation will also be Thursday, July 10, 2003 from 6-9pm at M.J. Colucci and Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St., Niagara Falls, NY. Funeral Mass will be Friday, July 11th St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1413 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, NY. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
