The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, July 6, 2003 Alice Van Alfen Clarkson, 78, a longtime resident of Tempe, died June 27, in Mesa. Born 31 October, 1924 in North Ogden, Utah, Alice is the third of four children born to William Van Alfen and Marie Elizabeth De Reus, with sisters Marion Molina, Norman Zander and brother William Nicholas Van Alfen. All of her life she has been very proud of her Dutch heritage, but she is most grateful for having been born in the United States to loving LDS parents. Her children, James William Clarkson, Howard Richard Clarkson, Frances Marie Tocco, Ava Christine Runion, David Wayne Clarkson, Vicki Alice Jones, 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren survive her. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at the Corona First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1111 E. Knox Rd., Tempe, with visitation two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in East Resthaven Park in Phoenix. Bueler Mortuary handled arrangements.
