POENIE, Francis Wessel


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Monday, April 11, 2011 - Francis Wessel Poenie passed away April 7, 2011, in Lake Havasu City at age 84. He was born to Bernard and Francina (Tapking) Poenie on Dec. 19, 1926. Fran, as he was known to his family and friends, served proudly under the direction of the U.S. Navy. On Dec. 2, 1950, he married Diane Seymour. Together, they made Lake Havasu their home 21 years ago, moving from Pleasanton, Calif. He worked for Rocketdyne and Xerox. Fran loved to fish and go out on his boat. He could do anything; there wasn’t anything he couldn’t figure out or fix. Fran leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Diane Poenie; son, Martin Poenie; daughters, Cynthia Bower and Susie Delaney; brother, Ben Poenie; nieces, Sandy Brett and Karen Corcoran; and two grandchildren, Jimmy and Katie Delaney. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ray Poenie; and sister, Marion Myss. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens. Pastor Chris Blythe will offer words of comfort and inspiration. VFW Post 9401 and American Legion Post 81 will perform military honors.
