Barbara Ann Shufflebotham passed away peacefully on April 18, 2011, with her loving family by her side. Barbara was born in Detroit to Robert and Valerie (Butcko) Mitchell.
Barbara graduated from Rosary High School in Detroit, and after completing some business courses, moved to California with a girlfriend, accomplishing her lifelong dream.
On May 29, 1967, Barbara married the love of her life, Bill, and together they had two cherished and devoted sons, Eric and Ryan. In 1998, they moved the family to Lake Havasu City. Ryan met and married Jaimie Power in 2009. Barbara and the family are looking forward to the arrival of her granddaughter, Rory, who will be born in July to Ryan and Jaimie.
Barbara loved learning about nature and animals, an interest acquired on family vacations on the upper peninsula of Michigan in the small town of Hessel. Traveling with Bill and her dog, Roxy, who was treated like a queen, in their motor home and sitting by the campfire at night under the stars was a joy to her. She enjoyed reading nonfiction books, especially true-crime stories. She also enjoyed thought-provoking movies and critiquing them with family and friends. She also loved a good laugh, especially tricking Bill on April Fool's Day, and she was always interested in keeping up with her extended family members. Taking care of her lovely home and gardening were a passion of Barbara’s.
But her greatest joy was her family, whom she loved greatly, nurturing them throughout her life. Barbara was a loving, thoughtful, honest, direct and a beautiful woman, body and soul. She may be out of direct sight, but never out of mind. She will be greatly missed.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Bill; sons Eric W. Shufflebotham and Ryan R. (Jaimie) Shufflebotham; brother Michael (Suzan) Mitchell and sisters Judy (Yasuo) Ishii and Kathy (Tom) Hugeuenin as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2011, 11 a.m. at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home with Michael and Suzan Mitchell offering words of comfort and inspiration.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Hospice of Havasu, PO Box 575, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405 whose staff lovingly cared for Barbara.
