Frank Rosehnal was born Nov. 14, 1916 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Hedwig (Straumucci) Rosehnal and John (Hans) Rosehnal. He died April 10, 2011.
He is survived by his wife of more than 70 years Mary (Corso) Rosehnal, daughter Mary Ann Rosehnal, grandson Scott Stoddart and his wife Sheli, and great grandson Dominic Stoddart. He is preceded in death by his brother William Rosehnal Rutgers.
Frank first came to Arizona in the 1930s in the heart of the depression and then always wanted to return as a resident, which he accomplished in 1973. He grew up in South Jamaica, Long Island, N.Y., and later Jamaica, N.Y. After about 10 years of marriage he took his family to Massapequa, N.Y., purchasing a home on the GI Bill as many World War II veterans did. In 1960 he moved his family to San Francisco via Tucson, Ariz., but was not yet destined to remain in Arizona. After one year they moved to Westlake Terrace (Daly City), Calif. He finally realized his dream of returning to Arizona in 1973.
Frank, whose native language was German, served in the United States Army as part of the Occupation of Berlin as chief of the Vice Squad and later in Army Intelligence. His father was a native of Vienna, Austria, and his mother was from Suceava, Romania, when it was part of the Austria-Hungarian Empire.
Frank was a very positive person and could find good in the worst of situations. He had a great sense of humor. His family was No. 1 in his life. And… as he would say, and taught his grandson and great grandson to say, Auf Wiedersehen.
There will be a memorial service celebrating his life at St. Anthony’s Church in Wickenburg at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 28. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church; 232 North Tegner St., Wickenburg, AZ 85390.
