Durieu Rites
Held Tuesday
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon of this week in the chapel of the A. L. Moore & Sons Mortuary in Phoenix for E. A. (Bill) Durieu, former Wickenburg ranch owner. He passed away early in the morning of February 27 in Good Samaritan Hospital , Phoenix, following a lingering illness. He was 71 years of age.
Dr. Charles S. Poling officiated at the funeral services and cremation followed.
A Wall Street stock broker for many years Mr Durieu later owned and operated a summer resort in Maine before coming to Wickenburg in 1947 and purchasing the Kal El Bar guest ranch here which he operated until 1961 when he sold the ranch and moved to Scottsdale. There he operated the Sundown guest ranch for several years. He was a resident of Phoenix when admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital several weeks ago.
In 1916 Mr Durieu served on the Mexican border when U. S. troops under General John J. Pershing sought to capture Pancho Villa.
He was a guest on Desert Caballero rides in 1949 and 1950 and became a member of that riding organization In 1952, continuing his membership through 1963.
Surviving are the widow Evelyn (Lyn); a son, Maj. O. P. Drury, U. S. Army, Ft. Campbell, Ky., and two grandchildren.
