HEAD-ON CRASH CLAIMS TWO
A head-on crash on Highway 93 about 32 miles northwest of Wickenburg at 11:45 p.m. last Friday claimed the lives of two drivers and sent four passengers from the two vehicles to Community Hospital here for treatment of injuries not believed too serious.
The two deaths raised the total of highway fatalities to nine this year in the Wickenburg Highway Patrol district which, a few months ago, was considerably reduced in over-all area.
Killed in the violent crash were Jose Carillo, age 20, of Phoenix, and Antonio Martinez, age 51, whose residence was given as Granger, Wash., but from passports in his possession and in the possession of his son and two daughters, all passengers in his 1964 Ford station wagon, it is believe he was enroute with his children to his home in Mexico.
Highway Patrolman John Hershey, investigating officer, said the northbound 1957 Chevrolet with Carillo at the wheel and Miel Moreno, age 23, also of Phoenix, as passenger, crossed the center line and collided head-on with the southbound Martinez station wagon. Both drivers were killed instantly. Moreno, Juan Martinez, age 24, Rebecca, age 21 and Irene Martinez, age 21 were all brought by ambulance to the hospital here where their condition was listed as fair Saturday morning. The wife and mother had remained in Granger, Hershey said. He also reported that indications were the two Phoenix men were going north to hunt deer.
