NELSON, Helen Margaret

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Tuesday, July 8, 2003 Helen Margaret Nelson, age 90 passed away July 6, 2003. Helen was born in Elmhurst, Illinois on April 28, 1913. She met Roy in high school & they were later married on April 28, 1932 & moved to Chandler, AZ in 1947 where Roy built their home. Helen & Roy were married 61 years before he passed away in 1993. Helen was a homemaker & Roy worked for Mesa Public Schools. Helen created a wonderful environment for her three children. She longed for the outdoors, so their home was forested like a huge garden. She also loved violets & pansies, planting them all over the yard. She loved humming birds & was always excited when they came to hover over the feeders she put out for them. Many made their homes in the trees that covered their front & back yards. For years & years she would watch their little ones hatch & soon fly away, as if they too were her children. Helen loved the game of tennis & taught it to all her kids. Her last time on the court was when she was 85 years old. Standing on the court with her wooden racket, she seemed to be transormed back some 40 years ago when she was the best tennis player in the family. She will be remembered as a warm loving mother & a God fearing woman who loved, Jehovah, Jesus Christ, studying the Bible & telling others about her hope. She is survived by her brothers, Maynard Kuepper of Las Vegas, Nevada & James Kuepper of Independence, Missouri, her daughter, Jeanne E. Bermudez of Mesa, AZ., who lovingly cared for her for the past several years & her sons, Jan D. Nelson of Phx, AZ., Rod A. Nelson of Gilbert, AZ., four Grandchildren, Christine Nelson, Mark Nelson, Adama Nelson & Tia Nelson & two Great-Grandchildren, Tristan Nelson & Alexander Nelson. She touched the lives of many people & will be warmly remembered. The memorial will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 630 W.
