Helen Ruth Phillips died on April 11, 2011, in St. George, Utah. Helen was born June 19, 1929, in Harrah, Okla., to J. Lester and Joyce Allen.
As a teenager, Helen's family moved to Winslow, where she worked as a Harvey Girl at the La Pasada during the war. After the war she met and married Claude L. Phillips Jr. They spent 64 loving years together.
Helen and Phil moved to Kingman in 1954 where they raised their family. Helen was very involved in church activities, serving as Sunday school teacher and superintendent as well as many other positions through the years. She was also very busy with school and scouts, and other community projects. She loved to sew and do craft projects and operated the Turtle Shell gift shop for a number of years, making and selling handcrafted gift items.
Helen and Phil retired to Hurricane, Utah, in 2006, and recently lived with their son in St. George, Utah.
Helen is survived by her husband, Claude "Phil"; sister, Carolyn (Charles) Howell of Cottonwood; children, Sheri Nolen of Flagstaff, David (Sharon) of Cedar City, Utah, Darrell (Margaret) of St. George, and Levi of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Eric Nolen, Gina (Kevin) Crabtree, Sheri (Alan) Smith, Laura Phillips, Aaron Phillips, Bradly Phillips, Sara Phillips, T.J. Rowden, and Tony Rowden; nine great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew and their families; and two aunts in Oklahoma.
Helen was loved for her kindness and generosity and will be greatly missed. Per her request, private services are planned.
