Lorraine H. Sandoval, 78, of Tuba City, died Monday, April 25, 2011, at Tucson University Medical Center.
Mrs. Sandoval was born June 29, 1932, in Tuba City. Maternal clan was Todichiini (Bitter Water); paternal clan (Hopi) was Dawa (Sun). She was an administrative assistant at Tuba City Boarding School, a Girl Scouts leader and a member of the Navajo Code Talker Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, watching basketball (especially the Phoenix Suns), cooking, baking and traveling.
She is survived by daughters Jeannie Sandoval, Sharon Sandoval-Iron and Maxine Sandoval; son Gary Sandoval; sisters Mary Nuvatnik and Gayle Honahni; brother LeRoy Shingoitewa; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband and Navajo Code Talker Merrill L. Sandoval; son Gerald Sandoval; parents Irene Tisi and Samuel Shingoitewa; sister Lolita Begay; and brother Lorin Humetewa.
Viewing will be Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Tuba City LDS Church. A service will follow at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Citizens Cemetery in Flagstaff.
Valley Ridge Mortuary in Tuba City is handling arrangements.
