SHAW, JR., John Francis


News Tribune (Tacoma WA) Sunday, April 17, 2011 John Francis Shaw Jr. was born March 19, 1930 to John F Shaw and Ruth Foster Shaw of Terre Haute, IN. He passed away on March 30, 2011 in Vancouver, WA. He was preceded in death 7 months by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sally Baldwin Shaw. He is survived by their children, John F Shaw III (Sheri), James B Shaw (Pat), Carol Joy Peiss (Gary), and Joel F Shaw (Angela), and his brother Joseph B Shaw (Joyce) of Wickenburg, AZ. John leaves behind 10 grandchildren. John met Sally at the University of Washington, and married her in 1952 after becoming an officer in the Marine Corps in Quantico, VA. John moved his family to Lake Oswego, OR to work for Molded Container Corp in 1964. He helped form the Society of the Plastics Industry in the Northwest, becoming its first President. He also chaired an SPI Western Regional Conference in San Diego. In 1976 he founded Shaw Plastics in Tualatin, OR. In 1981 he began Shaw Tech Sales, Inc., a manufacture's rep firm selling equipment to the plastics industry, retiring in 1992. John became a general aviation pilot, flying thousands of hours before moving to Tacoma, WA in 1991 with Sally. They bought a boat and became members of the Tacoma Yacht Club. He helped run the Daffodil Festival Marine Parade for many years. In 1996 he became Commodore of the Yacht Club. Later he was awarded the club's RJ Mackinsky Humanitarian Award. John also worked on the Tug Boat races, Tall Ship Festivals, and was on the board for the Maritime Museum in Tacoma. When he retired from his activities John was declared a Living Legend of the Working Waterfront by the City of Tacoma. John touched many people's lives with his engaging personality and desire to make the world around him a better place. Leaving his family and friends with many wonderful and amazing memories, he is now with Jesus, and reunited with Sally for eternity. There will be a memorial service for John and Sally at The Tacoma Yacht Club, 5401 N Waterfront Dr, Tacoma, WA 98407, on Friday April 22nd, 2011 at 1:00pm.
