Dorothea Prewitt
Truly, we are blessed to have had the privilege of knowing Dorothea Marie Sophie Kelterborn Prewitt. Today, April 26, 2011, 'Dorothy' has left us for a better place, but has also left us better people for knowing her.
Dorothy was born Jan. 5, 1919, in Jamaica, Long Island, NY, to August Gustav Kelterborn and Bertha Marie Hildebrand.
Later, Dorothy met the love of her life, Col. Ben F. Prewitt, which led to a marriage of 61 years, and a love that lasted a lifetime. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, she has been cherished as a woman of undeniable strength, selflessness, kindness and generosity. Through triumph and hardship, she was always one to remain positive, true, loving and compassionate. She will be greatly missed, but because of her, we know it is possible to have strength, courage, compassion, and to love one another. These qualities defined Dorothy while she was living, and because of them, she will live in our hearts and memories forever.
Surviving are her daughter Leigh P. Haley and husband Tom, son Ben F. Prewitt III and wife Beverly, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many friends. Her husband Ben F. Prewitt and son Fred K. Prewitt preceded her in death.
There will be a private service for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis TN 38148. (800) 822-6344 Please reference Donor # 58838483.
