Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Sunday, May 01, 2011 Mary Diaz Contreras died peacefully at the Olivia White Hospice Home on April 28, 2011. Mary was born on Sept. 27, 1926, in Jerome to José R. and Silvina (Delgado) Diaz. The Diaz family moved from Jerome to Williams before settling in Flagstaff in the early 1940s. She married Julian Contreras in 1961. She worked for 20 years at the Fronske Studio, and also as a prep cook at various restaurants, including the Crown Restaurant in east Flagstaff, before retiring and becoming a homemaker. She loved music, sewing and being a loving sister, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered as a quiet, gentle lady, who always had a warm and inviting smile. She was a member of the San Francisco de Asis Catholic Parish. Mrs. Contreras was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Alexander D. Diaz and Joseph D. Diaz Jr. She is survived by her sisters, Isabel D. Diaz and Rosary Diaz Lozano; her husband, Julian; daughter Theresa; son Joseph; six grandchildren; and numerous relatives. An evening vigil and holy rosary will be Tuesday, May 3, at 6 p.m., and a funeral Mass will be Wednesday, May 4, at 11 a.m, with both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 224 S. Kendrick St. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery, 201 W. University Drive. Condolences may be sent directly to the family or through www.flagstaff mortuary.com.
