THOMPSON, Roy

The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ March 3, 1944, p. 1 TRAINMAN KILLED IN SANTA FE WRECK WAS ONCE RESIDENT HERE Santa Fe trains through Wickenburg are again back on schedule following the disastrous wreck of last Saturday afternoon near Peoria, which claimed the life of Conductor Roy Thompson, former resident of Wickenburg. The wreck occurred when a southbound freight struck a cow, the locomotive, cab and tender were jackknifed and Mr. Thompson crushed to death. Escaping serious injury were two other trainmen who lived here when they, with Mr. Thompson, were on the local run from Wickenburg to Parker, Charles A. Nichols and M. I. Staggs. Funeral services for Mr. Thompson were held in Prescott. He is survived by his widow and a son, Roy Stewart. The wreck tore up the track for several hundred feet and caused trains to run late for several days.
