Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, AZ Wednesday, May 04, 2011 Gilbert L. Williams passed away on April 26, 2011 after a long illness in San Pedro, Calif. Gilbert was born in Miami, Ariz. At the age of 17 he joined the United States Marine Corps. He fought a hard battle and was wounded by shrapnel on the Island of Iowa Jima. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Stephana (Fannie Trujillo) Williams; his daughter, Esther Cale (Lloyd); his son Gilbert Jr. (Georginne); three grandsons, and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind brothers, George L. Williams of Globe, Dave of San Pedro/Miami and Eddie Williams of Globe. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Williams and Martha Legaspi Williams; his brothers, Henry of San Manuel/Oracle, Ariz. and Tommy who was killed during World War II in Germany, and Johnnie who passed away this past year in Sun City, Calif. Services will be held in San Pedro, Calif. on Wednesday May 4, 2011. He will be laid to rest on Thursday, May 5, 2011 next to brother, Johnnie Williams, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.
