NICHOLS, Burnelle Rose

(Maiden Name: Aston)

Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, AZ Wednesday, May 4th, 2011 Burnelle Rose Nichols, age 83, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, Ariz. Behind every good man, they say, is a good woman. Burnelle Nichols was that woman. She married Charlie Nichols at 17 and bore three children starting at the early age of 18. She was Charlie’s campaign manager, helping him to become county supervisor. She worked long hours at the car lot doing many tasks including sanding and painting old cars. She was owner and manager of Roosevelt Lake Resort where she worked long hours. There were times she would close out the bar at 1 a.m. and get up at 4:30 a.m. to cook breakfast for the Salt River Project men. She could do everything from milking a cow to help recover gold at the mine, or write contracts, and be a good bookkeeper, accountant and secretary. She did payroll and took care of the insurance for the company and managed the office at Sleeping Beauty Mining where she finally became too sick to work at the age of 83. Some people work to live, however, Burnelle lived to work. She liked to read and she liked to travel, but her idea of fun must have been to work. The one thing above and beyond her active work life was her family. She was always there for her kids and grandchildren. She kept close track of all her relatives. She was tough, smart and lovable. She will be missed very much. “We love you ‘Grandma Honey’.” She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Nichols, Sr.; son, Charlie Nichols, Jr.; and two grandchildren, Joey Nichols and Kim Nichols, Tittes. Burnelle leaves behind in loving memory one son, Monty (Clara) Nichols of Gold Canyon; one daughter, Christy Nichols Noah of Lower Miami; four grandchildren, Stacey Nichols (Rick) Righi of Phoenix, Jimbo Nichols of Gold Canyon, Clint Nichols of Mesa and Julie Nichols of Mesa; three brothers, Clelle Frazier of Phoenix, Morris (Juanita) Aston of Globe and Donald (Kate) Aston of Phoenix; and one sister, Carol Welker of Show Low. Services were held on Friday, April 29, 2011, at Miles Funeral Services Globe Chapel, 237 S. Sutherland St., in Globe, Ariz. Final resting place is Globe Cemetery, Hackney Avenue, Globe, Ariz. Funeral arrangements for Burnelle R. Nichols were entrusted to Miles Funeral Services Globe.
