Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Wednesday, May 04, 2011 Anne Elizabeth Flynn Zeldes, 86, died April 29, 2011, at home in Flagstaff. She was born July 2, 1924, in Jackman, Maine, to Frank Flynn and Blanche Pooler. Her father died when she was young and the family moved to Portland, Maine. Mrs. Zeldes' childhood was dominated by music. She played the violin in school and played in a trio with her brother and sister at civic functions. She graduated from The University of New Hampshire as a premed major. After college, she worked at Yale University as a microbiologist. She left this position to work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where she met and married Dr. Henry Zeldes in 1949. The couple lived and raised three children in Oak Ridge, Tenn. When Dr. Zeldes retired in 1984, the couple moved to Hendersonville, N.C., where Mrs. Zeldes lived until she moved to Flagstaff in 2003. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Zeldes is survived by her brother, Frank Flynn of Newport, R.I.; sister Maryellen (Gene) Kelley of Santa Barbara, Calif.; daughter Tricia (Terry) Ketchum of Dyersburg, Tenn.; sons Steven (Dru) Zeldes of Flagstaff and Mike (Beth) Zeldes of Ada, Mich.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 44 years, Henry. A remembrance will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at The Peaks Senior Living Center in the front lobby. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to The University of New Hampshire Foundation at John S. Elliott Alumni Center, 9 Edge Wood Road, Durham N.H., 03824 (https://foundation. unh.edu/make-gift). The donations will be used to support a graduate fellowship in the Microbiology Department.
