Gladys Viola Bowie (Day) passed away peacefully April 3, 2011 in her 100th year, at Trinity Village — Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. She was born on a farm in Goldstone, Ontario; one of 11 children.
After high school, Gladys graduated as a nurse from Galt General Hospital in 1932. She practiced her profession for more than 50 years throughout Canada and America with great care and compassion. For many years, she spent her winters at her home in Desert Hills with her brothers, George and Joe.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Schieck) Day. She was predeceased by her siblings Eliza, Grace, Joy, Minnie (Stan) Near, Cora (Herbert) Thompson, Luella (Gordon) Pawson, Lisle, George, William (Marie) Day, Joseph (Margaret) Day. Fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and faithful longtime friends. She was a true friend and inspiration to many. Special thanks to the entire staff and community at Trinity Village Studios for their compassion and the exceptional care they provided for Gladys, especially the last few weeks.
It was Gladys' wish to donate her remains to the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Toronto for research purposes, following which her cremated remains will be returned for burial in the family plot at Drayton Cemetery.
A celebration of her life will take place later this year.
