PARKHILL, Vickie Marie


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/06/2011 Vickie Marie Parkhill, 57, died peacefully April 23, 2011, in Las Vegas Nev. to God's loving embrace. She was born Feb. 9, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan to Della and Fred Parkhill. Vickie resided in Las Vegas, Nev. Beloved sister to Fredda Parkhill Kermes and Deborah Bushor, Vickie lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling across the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, and Thailand. She made many friends along her travels and enjoyed all of her adventures. She loved the outdoors and explorations each place offered. She enjoyed especially riding elephants in Thailand and river rafting along the border of Laos. Of all the places she lived and visited her heart belonged in San Diego, Calif. Vickie obtained her bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University and her teaching credential from California State University. She found her greatest passion as a special education teacher. She cared deeply for each special child in her charge and made a great difference to her special students. Vickie was so proud of her work and the many contributions she was able to make to these special children. Vickie loved hiking and exploring. She spent many wonderful days hiking in Giant City State Park in southern Illinois, Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona, and the White Mountains of Arizona. She was an avid rock collector and had a beautiful collection of rocks, minerals and gem stones. Nephews Aaron, Jimmy, and David and niece Annie were the lights in Vickie's life and they will miss greatly their Aunt Vickie's apple pies which she always made promptly upon her arrival. The whole neighborhood knew about Aunt Vickie's apple pies. Trips to California to visit her were magical and full of fun. Wonderful memories were made. Vickie is survived by her sister, Fredda Parkhill Kermes; (Charles); sister Deborah Bushor (James); nephew Aaron Kermes, niece Annie Kermes, nephews Jimmy Bushor and David Bushor. Vickie is also survived by special cousin Martha Shaw who helped her find her passion as a special education teacher and guided her in life. Vickie had many friends, special friends who loved and will dearly miss her including Suzie Burke and Marianne Bond. "Our heart's are broken." A celebration of Vickie's life is planned at a later date in San Diego, Calif.
