Richard Bradley Birch passed to the next life May 3, 2011. Through years of illness, Rich maintained enthusiasm for the good things in life, but his time arrived and his body finally yielded.
Rich was born to Louise and Warren Birch Jan. 1, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Relia Lyon and had two children, Erica and Paul.
Rich married Kathi June Lewis Dec. 29, 1998. She was a gentle but firm influence on Rich’s rougher side, and a catalyst for his sweeter side. In the years they were married, Rich became increasingly sweet, concerned with others in his family and community, and closer to God. He was a loving and supportive dad and grandpa, checking on, helping, and commending his children regularly.
Rich was an avid golfer, bowler, car enthusiast, swimmer, boater, a “rocket-scientist” by trade, and a genius. He was in love with Havasu, especially the heat.
In his final moments, Rich expressed gentle love to his wife, daughter, son, daughter-in law and grandchildren, praising them, encouraging them, and leaving them all better people. Most of all, he wanted them to know of his deep love for his dear wife, Kathi, and his gratitude for her, calling her “the greatest woman on earth.”
Rich is survived by his wife, Kathi; daughter, Erica; son, Paul (Janet); Kathi’s son, Steve Lewis; daughter, Terri Schley (Scott); grandchildren, Morgan, Jonathan, Peter, Elisabeth, Gabrielle, Jeremiah, Brandy, Alex, Bryce, Bronson, Natalie; and five great-grandchildren.
We will miss Rich and his loving influence. We will miss playing golf and boating with him. Most of all, we will miss a dear friend to us all.
Memorial services will be at the LDS Chapel on 504 N. Acoma Blvd., Saturday, 11 a.m. Visitors may greet the family from 10-10:45 a.m.
